Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram Outage Impacting Millions Of Users Globally

Users around the world (including us), had a hard time accessing their accounts after Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram Outage, many other sites also suffered an unpresented outage. Issue appears to be a server-side, as it happens when trying to access Instagram the app shows the [5XX server error] .

Facebook made a tweet stating that “they’re aware of the problem”, and they’re working to get service in the right order.

Also Instagram and WhatsApp made similar tweets

Downdetector website reporting “widespread outage”

insights page of Downdetector website had a red banner, stating that there may be a “widespread outage at Facebook, which may be impacting your service”.
Downdetector also stated that this is the largest outage they’ve ever monitored, with over 10.6 million problem reports from all over the globe. U.S. had the most reports at threshold of 1.7 million.

The outage took about six hours before service was resolved. Facebook made statement apologizing for the outage, and pointed out it was because of configuration change on backbone routers that coordinate network traffic between different Facebook data centers, which caused the DNS to go offline and in turn, causing interruption of access. Facebook also updated its statement at oct. 5, 2021 to confirm that there was “no evidence that user data was compromised as a result of this downtime”.
